Anberlin & Foxy Shazam

Anberlin is currently on the road playing some southeast US shows along with Foxy Shazam and States. States opened up last nights show in Orlando with a rather bland and forgettable set. The crowd did not seem to get into them; they were all waiting anxiously for Foxy Shazam to take the stage. If you have never seen Foxy Shazam live, you have no purpose for living! Without a doubt, hands down the most entertaining band you will ever see live! There are absolutely no words you can use to describe them; they do EVERYTHING on stage, from standing on top of keyboards to eating a whole pack of lit cigarettes while doing a handstand! Aside from their stage antics, they actually play some very good music. While the content and lyrics are interesting, the music they pair them with makes it a total package! See them live, end of story! Read the rest of this entry

Panic At The Disco, Patrick Stump, and Foxy Shazam

Panic at the Disco are back on the road with the 2nd leg of their 2011 tour. Bringing back Foxy Shazam and adding Patrick Stump to round out the night, fans were in for a treat. First up was Foxy. There are absolutely no words that can describe their live set, so I am not even going to try. SEE THEM LIVE, END OF STORY. Patrick Stump was on next, brought on by the shriek of teenage Fall Out Boy fans. Stump has continued to blow me away as a solo artist. The passion and energy that he displays while onstage was never seen while he was fronting FOB. He blazed through a loaded set list of original songs off of his new album “Soul Punk.” Read the rest of this entry

Sire Records

This MIGHT just be my favorite new band! Foxy Shazam has been around since 2004, but this is my first introduction to them, and holy shit, what an introduction! I may be in love, but I’m not sure…um, uh, he’s hot and all, but he can’t have substance, CAN HE? Oh yes he can, my dear! Foxy Shazam is sexy, smart, deep, and one helluva conversationalist! This Cincinnati, Ohio-based sextet is comprised of Eric Sean Nally (vocals), Loren Daniel Turner (guitars), Daisy (bass), and Alex Nauth (horns), and Aaron McVeigh (drums). This band is one who provides one of those rare convergences of inspiration, nostalgia, and hope for the future in their music. Don’t look at those words like you don’t know what the hell I’m talking about! It’s happened to you before too! Here’s what I mean…I hear their music, and I’m inspired to call everyone I know and write a review to tell the world how freakin’ awesome this band is! Then simultaneously, I feel this sense of nostalgia that takes me back to memories happy days and of seeing my favorite bands live…those bands that I dearly love (and some are now defunct) and it makes me happy and sad all at the same time! Then also simultaneously, I hear them and I feel this hope that the future of music is alive, well, and in good hands…and that a label finally got it ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!  So…I’m back to being in love… Foxy Shazam’s music is a unique conglomeration of up-tempo tunes…almost dance at times, but always pop-punk/rock with a tinge of ska.
