The 18th annual Vans Warped Tour pulled into Vinoy Park in St Pete Florida last week, unloading its own mini city of punk rock madness along the water. Thousands of fans rushed to the entrance as gates were opened an hour before they were supposed to. With an incredibly diverse lineup this year, along with a heavy hitting main stage lineup including ALL TIME LOW, TAKING BACK SUNDAY, YELLOWCARD, FOUR YEAR STRONG, FALLING IN REVERSE, PIERCE THE VEIL, NEW FOUND GLORY, and BREATHE CAROLINA, Warped fans were in for a long, hot sweaty good time. The night started off with The Key of Awesome, a trio who perform parodies of popular songs. The crowd seemed to enjoy their takes on hit artists like Owl City, Adele, and Maroon 5.
Second up was singer/songwriter Alex Goot. His piano style is reminiscent of performers like Gavin Degraw and The Fray, and his songs were both catchy and emotional.
After Alex Goot was Dave Days, a guitar slinging pop-punk artist who commanded the stage. He performed new and old songs, including some from his new EP “We’re Just Kids”. His set was my personal favorite. He was joined on drums by Ricky Ficarelli, one of the most popular drummers online.
NicePeter was the next act to perform on the DigiTour stage. His viral videos, “Epic Rap Battles of History”, are currently topping the YouTube charts. His impromptu style and clever lyrics kept the audience guessing. His performance stood out as one of the more entertaining, bringing crowd members on stage to perform raps. After nearly 3 years on the road touring with his old material, Jeff Dunham is back on the road and better than ever with his new “Controlled Chaos Tour.” At a recent stop in Daytona Beach, Dunham and his little friends had the near sold out crowd rolling on the floor. His new act is a mix of material from his latest Comedy Central special, as well as some brand new never before heard jokes. With so much to say, Dunham no longer has Guitar Guy out on the road to open the show, it is all Jeff, all the time. Along with fan favorites Walter, Bubba J, Achmed, Peanut, and even Jose, Jeff introduced two new characters, AJ and Little Jeff. The usual crude yet hilarious banter between Jeff and his puppets was ever present, with an occasional F-bomb or two thrown in! While that may be the case, the kids in the crowd were laughing just as hard as their parents. During intermission, Jeff introduced the crowd to Roadie the wonder dog, his new puppy. Anberlin is currently on the road playing some southeast US shows along with Foxy Shazam and States. States opened up last nights show in Orlando with a rather bland and forgettable set. The crowd did not seem to get into them; they were all waiting anxiously for Foxy Shazam to take the stage. If you have never seen Foxy Shazam live, you have no purpose for living! Without a doubt, hands down the most entertaining band you will ever see live! There are absolutely no words you can use to describe them; they do EVERYTHING on stage, from standing on top of keyboards to eating a whole pack of lit cigarettes while doing a handstand! Aside from their stage antics, they actually play some very good music. While the content and lyrics are interesting, the music they pair them with makes it a total package! See them live, end of story! Read the rest of this entry
