2010 FEARLESS FRIENDS TOUR

The 2010 Fearless Friends Tour featured 5 of the most talented, young bands on the Fearless Records Roster…Artist vs. Poet, Go Radio, Every Avenue, Breathe Carolina and Mayday Parade.

Check out these interviews with 3 of the 5 bands on the 2010 Fearless Friends Tour. Take some time to see how each band responds to the same set of questions, and what each band says about the others!

 ARTIST VS. POET

Introduce yourself, please.
My name is Jason Dean and I play bass guitar for Artist Vs Poet.

Tell me a brief history of your band.
Artist Vs Poet has been a band since 2008.

Introduce us to the members and tell us something about each one, including yourself.
Tarcy Thomason is the lead singer and one of the founding members of Artist Vs Poet.
Joe Westbrook is the drummer and he has been with the band since the first Self-Titled EP.
Joe Kirkland is our guitarist and second vocalist. He was the last member to join Artist Vs Poet and we discovered him through his cover songs on YouTube, and finally
Me.. I have been supporting Artist Vs Poet from day one and I worked as the merch guy until their old bass player left the band. I then stepped up and started playing bass guitar.

Tell us about your latest release.
Favorite Fix is our debut full-length record. It’s a very guitar-driven pop rock album and it has a mixture of carefree “I just wanna live my life” songs, as well as serious songs about growing up and tackling life’s crazy curve balls as they come. It is by no means a concept album, but each song contains a story of its own, influenced by real life situations which stem from different band members.

What is the current single on the album?
“Adorable” is our current single and we were humbled and beyond excited when it landed a part in the Season 6 premiere of Bones.

What is your favorite song to play live?
“Favorite Fix” is one of my favorite live jams because of the high energy and intensity.

Tell us how you felt to be selected for the Fearless Friends tour.
Being part of the Fearless Friends tour is such an amazing opportunity! It truly is a tour full of real-life-actual friends and I would have been really bummed to have missed out on it! We are beyond grateful to everyone who helped make this tour a possibility.

Give us one phrase to describe each of the other bands on the tour.
Mayday Parade – These guys are tour dogs.
Breathe Carolina – Is one constant dance party on and off the stage.
Every Avenue – They might be some of the biggest bros to wear skinny jeans and play pop music.
Go Radio – Is actually the only band we have not met yet, but that will change very soon.

What is your favorite song for each of the other bands on the tour?
I love so many songs by all these bands, so take this selection with a grain of salt.
Mayday Parade – “Kids In Love”
Breathe Carolina – “Obsession”
Every Avenue – “Tell Me I’m A Wreck”
Go Radio – “Goodnight Moon”

What are you listening to now?
Ben Folds – Lonely Avenue

Tell fans why they should check out your band.
We are a band full of genuine guys who have a huge heart for the pursuit of expression through music. We put ourselves into every song the best we can so that hopefully fans, old and new, can relate. The result is us, Artist Vs Poet. Our music will sometimes make you roll your windows down in the summertime, as well as make you lock yourself in your bedroom and just let it all out!

EVERY AVENUE

Introduce yourself, please.
Dave: My name is Dave, and I sing in Every Avenue.
Matt: I’m Matt and I play bass in Every Avenue.

Tell me a brief history of your band.
Dave: We all started playing in different band in high school. Along the way we had some member changes and finally found the right fit. Three EPs and two full-lengths later, here we are.
Matt: We started in 2004, but with a completely different lineup.  We all love Chili’s.

Introduce us to the members and tell us something about each one, including yourself.
Matt: Josh plays guitar and is slightly overweight, Dennis plays drums and doesn’t believe in dinosaurs, Jimmie plays guitar and once thought about joining the military, Dave sings and is the second tallest, Matt plays bass and is the lack of brains behind the operation.

Tell us about your latest release.
Dave: Picture Perfect was our last release. We did the record with Mitch Allan and Mike Green. It was different this time because we wrote all new songs and we didn’t use songs that we had for over 4 years. We did the record in LA, so it was nice to get to sit around in the sun and go surfing or something when we weren’t in the studio!
Matt: It’s called Picture Perfect and it contains 11 record-breakingly good songs.

What is the current single on the album?
Dave & Matt: The current single is “Tell Me I’m A Wreck.”

What is your favorite song to play live?
Dave: My favorite song to play live is “Mindset”.
Matt: I’ve really enjoyed playing “Picture Perfect” lately.

Tell us how you felt to be selected for the Fearless Friends tour.
Dave: Great! We are proud to be a part of the Fearless family and to be able to be part of the tour!
Matt: Were all really excited…and a little gassy.

Give us one phrase to describe each of the other bands on the tour.
Dave: A bunch of reckless motherfuckers!
Matt: Terrible…for all of them. 🙂

What is your favorite song for each of the other bands on the tour?
Dave:
Mayday- “Kids in Love”
Breathe- “Hello Fascination”

Go Radio- “Thanks for Nothing”

What are you listening to now?
Dave: The dogs in this house going nuts chasing cats…
Matt: A lot of Foo Fighters lately.

Tell fans why they should check out your band.
Dave: It’s a really good record with a song for any mood you’re in…and so I can buy food!
Matt: Come watch us live and see for yourself!!

MAYDAY PARADE

Introduce yourself, please.
My name is Jeremy and I play bass, and sing back up for Mayday Parade.

Tell me a brief history of your band.
We started about five years ago. Mayday Parade consisted of two bands that came together to form one super band. Me, Brooks, and Derek were in a band called Defining Moment, and Jake and Alex were in a band called Kid Named Chicago. We had a couple of practices to make sure the new band would work, and during those practices we wrote “When I Get Home, You’re So Dead” and “Three Cheers For Five Years”, after we finished those songs we knew we had something going for us, so then we tried thinking of various names until we settled on Mayday Parade.

Introduce us to the members and tell us something about each one, including yourself.
Derek (singer) – He’s probably the most relaxed person you could ever meet, I don’t think I’ve seen him mad more than twice since I’ve known him.
Alex (lead guitarist) – Great guitarist, and devoted to music. You can always find him practicing new things in the corner of the room with his guitar.
Brooks (rhythm guitarist) – Brooks is very business minded. He manages a couple bands, so you can always find him on the phone with someone trying to do who knows what. Business talk…
Jake (drummer/vocals) – Jake is a jokester, and a work-out machine. You can find him in the green room doing P90x and other things to keep in shape.
Jeremy (bass/vocals) – I like to do the interviews.

Tell us about your latest release.
Last November, we released our latest album Anywhere But Here, and it has been going great! We had a lot of good things come out of that album, but to be honest, I am more excited about the stuff we are writing now. We will be spending this December and January writing for a new release, and I can guarantee you it will be one of my favorite albums we have put out! We hope to have it out by next summer, so keep your ears open for release dates.

What is the current single on the album?
The current single off Anywhere But Here is “Kids In Love.”  We pushed that song pretty hard to pop radio, and had a good response at radio.  It’s always weird to turn the radio on and hear your own music!

What is your favorite song to play live?
My favorite song to play live is the title track off the album, Anywhere But Here. My second favorite would be “Black Cat,” off our CD, A Lesson In Romantics.

Tell us how you felt to be selected for the Fearless Friends tour.
We feel amazing that Fearless wanted us to headline this tour! When Bob over at Fearless brought up the idea, we were stoked! We exchanged a couple emails about what other artists would be a good fit…and when we were done, we had the lineup we have now. I was surprised that it happened to work out that all the bands were able to do the tour and didn’t have other priorities.

Give us one phrase to describe each of the other bands on the tour.
I will give you one long phrase to describe all the bands, because they’re all so similar in the way they are…respectful sexy talented party animals!

What is your favorite song for each of the other bands on the tour?
Breathe Carolina – “Hello Fascination”
Every Avenue – “Tell me I’m a Wreck”
Artist vs. Poet – “Favorite Fix”
Go Radio – “Letters and Love Notes”

What are you listening to now?
Manchester Orchestra

Tell fans why they should check out your band.
Because it’s good!
