Erykah Badu – Durham, NC

Erykah Badu brought her jazz-soul stylings to Durham’s DPAC recently, for an unforgettable performance. Kicking off the night was east coast native Yahzarah, who got the crowd off their feet. Her vocal range was nothing but impressive, and the crowd ate it up. After a lengthy set from Yahzarah, it was time for the act everyone was waiting for… or so they thought. After an almost unnecessary 30+ minute set by a DJ, who seemed to just be stalling by the end, Mrs. Badu finally took the stage under a single spotlight. Dressed in a poncho and a large hat, Badu sang her first 2 songs with little to no movement but plenty of vocal power. After stripping off her jacket and displaying her new outfit consisting of baggy overalls, a white t-shirt, and a large amount of jewelry, Badu kicked up the tempo and got the crowd dancing and singing along with her for the rest of the night. They were going ham, no bologna here.
